Alternative: not the same as mainstream.
American: the UK commercial music industry is too mainstream.
Underground: no one has ever heard of me.
Acoustic: you can still play at acoustic nights.
Electronica: read on…
Don’t you always go to those acoustic nights but realise that the performers are the same people from last week with the same songs?
Ever been to you local ‘band venue’ and seen the same bands on a regular basis as they bring lot of their friends with them, but are only of any interest to their friends and no one else?
And what about the acoustic duo, the two lads that both play the same guitar parts and one sings. What about if one of them picked up an old tape recorder with some other atmospheric sounds recorded on it, held it up to the mic and introduced some interest…
Personally I’m sick of being bands as people are generally unreliable, or have different ideas but get bored of it without saying anything until they don’t bother anymore. The drummer who mysteriously strains both wrists, or the bass player that is always stuck in traffic…
So, my idea is to be a solo performer but use other items to liven the show up a bit…
There’s only so much to be said for one man and his guitar, so what about one man, a guitar and a tape recorder?. Well, tape recorders are hard to keep in time and in tune with, also you can’t press ‘play’ while you’re strumming...
But, what about one man, a guitar and a CD player?, Well the CD player will stay in time and in tune but it’s still hard to press play and it’s sounding more and more like Karaoke as we go on…
So, what about one man, a guitar and a laptop with a small MIDI controller and a CD ROM drive to play the CD in, a soft synth running on the laptop for some ambient sounds. Whatever backing track you play looks like it’s cleverly been computer programmed…
And, what about one man with a guitar, a laptop, and a video projector and an experimental film? The story goes on, but it’s more interesting to watch and perform than… one man and a guitar.
And that, is what ‘Acoustic-Electronica’ means.
This site is an attempt to show some alternative tracks and film ideas produced on a budget by me in my house. I have a small PC based project studio and a cheap digital camcorder.
I will show you some innovative ideas and free / homemade solutions to sound production…
